Uniquely French Culture Rituals

Filed Under (Info) by admin on 21-07-2008

French culture rituals have roots in the long and storied French history. For example, up until the beginning of the 20th century one of the more stable French culture rituals was that the officially sanctioned state religion of France was Roman Catholicism. However as people from the rural areas, who were the ones most stringently holding to the French culture ritual of practicing the Roman Catholic religion, began moving into the cities especially Paris the countryside began to lose its population base and soon the Christian movement began to stall and stop all together in France. This has been attributed to the decline in the moral sense in all of France and has helped France earn a hedonistic reputation.

One of the more famous French culture rituals is that of the love of art within all of France and all throughout French culture. This French culture ritual is so revered by all of the French citizens that they went about building the Louvre in 1793 and it is one of the largest, and most famous, art museums in all of the world. The Louvre is not only home to almost all of the significant art created by French artists down through history but it is also home to the Mona Lisa by Leonardo da Vinci and the classical Greek statue named the Venus De Milo. Art is a large part of the French culture ritual and the Louvre is their center of the art world.

Keeping Up Appearances

The French are well known for their strong sense of nationalistic pride and they are also well known for defending that pride at any cost. They put a great deal of their identity into Paris being a world center for culture and art and their strong defense of the notion that Paris is a center of culture for the world has earned the French the reputation for being arrogant. Many French will gladly deal with a reputation of being snobs and for being arrogant as long as they feel they have the high culture to back that attitude up.

The French are also known throughout the sporting world for their very famous Tour De France cycling race that happens annually. The Tour De France is considered one of the cycling races of the year and it covers almost all of the perimeter of France over hundreds of miles of rugged terrain. However in recent years the cloud of possible drug enhanced Tour De France champions is starting to bring a sense of shame to an otherwise very proud country.

Are You On A Gluten And Wheat Free Diet?

Filed Under (Info) by admin on 19-07-2008

Your doctor may have prescribed a gluten and wheat free diet for you if you are unable to digest the gluten that is found in some cereal grains. The three main reasons why your doctor would have prescribed such a diet to you are the presence of celiac disease, dermatitis herpetiformis or a wheat allergy. In the presence of celiac disease and dermatitis herpetiformis, a gluten free diet will be prescribed and for a wheat allergy, the wheat free diet is prescribed.

Wheat Free For Health Reasons

Since wheat does have a high level of gluten, it is recommended that any person, who needs a gluten free diet, avoid wheat as well. The two other grain cereals with high levels of gluten are rye and barley. If you are on a wheat free diet because of a wheat allergy, you do not also have to avoid rye and barley as you would with a gluten free diet. Since oats are cross contaminated by being processed by many of the same machines that are used to process wheat, barley and rye, it is recommended that a person who is sensitive to gluten not consume oats.

Read The Labels

Since grain products are used in all kinds of foods, you will need to be careful in your food purchases and check the labels. Many prepared foods contain starches, emulsifier, flours, flavoring, vegetable proteins, stabilizer, soy sauce or vegetable gum, which could contain gluten or wheat. You can find grain products used in so many foods because they are useful as a thickener and for holding food products together.

Special Diet Products Are Available

Since so many people are in need of food products that are suitable for a gluten and wheat free diet, you are able to purchase these types of special food products at many of the larger grocery stores. Such a product will be clearly marked as gluten free or wheat free. You can also prepare your own foods from scratch so that you can be sure that your food contains neither gluten nor wheat.

You can enjoy eating on a gluten and wheat free diet despite any restrictions on wheat, barley or oats. While being on a gluten and wheat free diet may make it less convenient to get your meals and snacks, it does not mean that you have to give up on flavor or nutrition. You can find the healthy additions that you need for your gluten and wheat free diet so that you can fulfill your daily nutrition requirements without the addition of gluten or wheat.

The Importance Of Understanding And Identifying Food Allergies

Filed Under (Info) by admin on 15-07-2008

Food allergies affect a small percentage of the population, including approximately two to three percent of all adults and six to eight percent of kids. Many who believe they are suffering from a food allergy may instead have intolerance to a particular type of food. A good example of this would be someone who has a lactose intolerance that makes it difficult to eat milk or dairy products without experiencing an upset stomach afterward. Intolerance to a particular food group is not considered an allergy because the immune system is not involved in the process. A true allergy consists of the immune system malfunctioning by reacting to a particular allergen as though it were a harmful substance to the body in this case, a type of food would be the culprit.

What Foods Cause Food Allergies?

While nearly any food can cause an allergic reaction, the majority of food allergies are caused by a handful of culprits. These foods include wheat, soy, milk, eggs, nuts and fish. Most people will only have a reaction to one or two of these types of foods, although some will have allergies to a related food as well. For example, a person who is allergic to peanuts might also have a reaction to soybeans or peas. People who suffer from eczema or asthma are also more likely to have allergies as well, and this could encompass food allergies as well as reactions to other substances.

What are the Symptoms and Treatment Options?

Symptoms of food allergies can include itching and hives, swelling of the lips and mouth, cramps, nausea and diarrhea. Some people will also have reactions like watery eyes or a runny nose. More severe symptoms will entail dizziness, difficulty breathing and a rapid heartbeat. If you or someone you know experience any of these allergy symptoms, it is important to seek medical care immediately. Also, if you have a less severe reaction that does not go away fairly quickly you should seek medical care as well. If you suspect that you have a food allergy, your doctor can help you to pinpoint the cause of the reaction through blood tests or by referring you to an allergist. Many food allergies are diagnosed simply by the symptoms reported, and by the food that was eaten prior to the appearance of the symptoms.

Most food allergies can be avoided simply by staying away from the food that causes the reaction. If a reaction does occur, mild symptoms can generally be treated at home through the use of over-the-counter antihistamines. More severe symptoms will always require emergency medical care since acute allergic reactions can be life threatening.
